JOAN ISBELL

I have been interested in the yogic arts for close to 4 decades. Exploring the practices of asana, pranayama, chanting and singing remain primary ways for me to slow down, quiet down, feel my body, focus my mind, and nourish my spirit. I return again and again to recite and imbibe the foundational philosophy of yoga. Although the Ashtanga Tradition has been my main focus, I have much appreciation and respect for other traditions, schools and approaches to the vast subject of yoga. My early exposure to Kundalini touched me and has stayed with me, as well as influences from the Iyengar school and classical Hatha Yoga. I am grateful to have so much material to draw on as I craft a practice for myself as I age and my life stage shifts. I received Authorisation Level 1 to teach by KPJAYI in Mysore, India in 2010. I am also a long-time bodyworker and a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and my yoga teaching is informed by both.
